Awning Cleaning During Winter

Vancouver's winter season is rainy, dirty and muddy. Which means it's a busy time for us here at Arman Expert Cleaning Services. One of our most popular cleaning services - Awning Cleaning, gives us some of the most challenging tasks. Today we'd like to share with you some of our common techniques for ensuring your awnings and over-hangs remain clean throughout the wet showers.

The biggest challenge with awnings is that they come in a variety of different materials. Some are made of cloth, some are made of plastic, others are made of glass or various metals. Each different surface type has a different technique for removing dirt and stains. Typically, for cloth-based materials we will spend a much longer time with our wash process. For harder surfaces like plastic and metal, we will make sure to run extra passes through our heavy-duty pressure washer, using some of the more harsher nozzles on the device.

The other challenge is the positioning. Awnings typically stick out at various angles and often at a significant height. Sometimes I can be hard to reach some of the dirtier spots on the material. This is why our technicians are always prepared with a variety of tools, including: ladders, wash extensions, hand tools, long brushes and hoses, and for really hard-to-reach places - we also have a access to our bucket-truck which can be positioned for maximum efficiency.

Lastly, awnings can be easily damaged, therefore all of our technicians needs to be extra careful not to drop any tools or accidentally step on the awning. We also need to pay extra attention to just how much pressure we use - since we want to target all the various stains, bird droppings and dirt deposits, but not leave any damaging marks on the original surface. For really dirty awnings, we will use a variety of soaps and other detergents to get it back to a shining finish.

Because of these challenges, we highly recommend adding additional sealing for your awning. It will protect it from mold, moss and damage and make sure that it remains easy to clean and retains its shine.
